Power BI is an excellent tool for analyzing public safety data, such as calls for service and reported crime. However, to our knowledge, all self-paced online training material about Power BI is aimed at the private sector. Because public safety data analysts focus on counting categories/events rather than summing sales amounts, they tend to confront challenges and produce visualizations that are not found in sales analysis.
This course is organized into 23 modules consisting of 5- to 15-minute videos. The material begins with foundational knowledge about the DAX coding language and filter context, which is the underlying logic Power BI uses to translate data into visuals. It then moves into the creation of measures, calculated columns, calculated tables, and data checks. After participants learn to alter the filter context of their analyses, the course will then conclude with automated comparisons of data from different, comparable time periods (known as “time intelligence” functions).
By the end of this course, you will have intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of topics in Power BI, including identifying misleading visuals, avoiding DAX errors with tables as inputs and scalars as outputs, and constructing sophisticated measures and calculated columns. If you are a public safety analyst, have basic familiarity with Power BI, and would like to produce targeted, automated, and dynamic report pages, then this training is for you!
This course takes about 4 and a half hours to complete and contains 4.1 hours of video learning content.
In addition to the virtual instruction, you will also be able to schedule two, one-on-one sessions to ask questions, troubleshoot, and brainstorm with the instructor (Note: Must be used within three months of purchase date).
